ETSU Brass Ensembles Concert

On November 27, 2017 at 7:30 pm, the Department of Music at ETSU held a concert for the brass ensembles. This concert featured music from each of these instruments: tube, euphonium, trombone, French horn, and trumpets. The tube/euphonium ensemble performed first, playing Adagio for Strings and You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch. These musical selections were performed by many talented musicians, some of which I know personally. The next ensemble to perform was the trombones. They began with a quartet, playing Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. The quartet included the director of the group. It was interesting seeing the teacher play with his students on a song, showing his own talents among the students. Next, the entire ensemble performed Sicut Cervus. These songs demonstrated the specific parts of music that trombones play best within large ensembles. Next, we heard from two talented horn players who performed Duo No and Menuetto. Both songs featured both musicians playing accompaniments and harmonies that bounced back and forth in beautiful patterns. Lastly, the trumpet ensemble performed. Starting with Fanfare from Requiem, they immediately showed off their abilities to play fast and high notes that the other ensembles would not have been fit to play. The songs were light and playful and accented the certain sounds the trumpet can make. The next song was Salvation is Created, and the final song was Bugler's Holiday. The music was beautiful for each group. I am amazed by what my peers can accomplish musically. I really enjoyed the music, and it introduced a Christmas spirit for the audience as well! I really enjoyed all of the ensembles and admire their hard work.
